Changes in public transport: Dresden's bus and train timetables have been reorganized!

Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB) has adjusted the bus and tram timetables from this Monday. These changes primarily affect lines that operate in heavily frequented areas. Loud day24 Tram line 7 between Gorbitz and Pennrich now only runs every 20 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes as usual. This regulation applies from Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. It becomes particularly challenging for those waiting on line 7 in the evenings: after 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. there are only trains every 30 minutes.

Bus route 74 has also been shortened and now only runs between Waldschlößchen and Jägerpark, although the route via Marienallee remains. The decision to discontinue bus route 76 is more dramatic; In their place there is a call taxi that can be ordered by telephone on 0351/857 11 11 up to 20 minutes before departure. Last but not least, at the end of the month bus line 88 will only run every 20 minutes.

Background of the adjustments

The managing director of DVB,Hemmersbach, describes the measures as “moderate”. In order to keep municipal transport on track for the future, DVB received support of 4.2 million euros for 2025 and 5.6 million euros for 2026. This financial aid is part of a larger package that ensures that the city continues to have attractive local public transport (ÖPNV). The 10-minute basic frequency on tram lines is therefore not affected by the cuts, which is particularly important for passengers.

Public transport plays an essential role in connecting rural areas to urban centers. Millions of people rely on public transport every day. Public transport is not only more environmentally friendly, but also enables more mobility, especially for those who do not have access to their own car. But whether the quality of the offerings remains high is of crucial importance for the quality of life in the regions bmv.de explained.

A look into the future

DVB will continue to examine potential savings and discuss the permanent location of public transport in the coming years. Further discussions are planned at the end of this year and next year. The question for citizens is how mobility in Dresden can be secured in the long term while at the same time the financial challenges have to be overcome.

Overall, it is clear that public transport in Dresden must not lose its importance, both as an element of the infrastructure and as a vital part of everyday urban life. The possibility of mobility opens up opportunities and tightens the bond between the city and its outskirts.
