Housing benefit position moves: New contact point from June 17th in Striesen!

The housing benefit office in Dresden is moving! On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the time has come: The central point of contact for housing benefit issues will move to the social welfare office at Junghansstraße 2 in Striesen. The previous location at Ferdinandplatz 1–2 will be closed on Friday, June 13, 2025. The last personal consultations at the old location will take place on Thursday, June 12, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The housing benefit office can count on 35 employees who will now fill the new central location with life after a strong increase in applications was reported on the basis of the 2023 residential reform [Johannstadt.de]

The new home of the housing benefit office in the social welfare office offers enough space for all 92 employees of the housing benefit team on the second and third floor. This measure was necessary because additional rooms were needed to cope with the rather high congestion backlog. The application for housing benefit has been possible online since March 2025 via the Amt24 application assistant, which makes access to this important state service much easier. Housing benefit is particularly intended for households with low incomes and helps both tenants and owners of self -used home ownership.

A look at the residential angle reform

The residential angle that came into force on January 1, 2023 has a major impact on many people in Germany. The Federal Government thus aims to support more households with low incomes. The reform triples the number of legitimate households and the average housing benefit could be raised to around 370 euros per month. For example, around two million households benefit from an increase, including 1.4 million that can claim for the first time or again [bmwsb.bund.de) that ...]

A very special highlight is the introduction of the housing benefit plus. This is a state grant that helps tenants, owners and, above all, families with low incomes. The reform comprises three components: general performance improvement, a permanent heating component to compensate for increased heating costs and a climate component to support energy -efficient apartments. The amount of the housing benefit is determined individually for each applicant, so that everyone can benefit from a tailor -made grant Dresden.de reports that ....

housing benefit made easy

Another advantage of the reform is the completely paperless application that can be made online conveniently since January 1, 2023. This is made possible by a new online assistant on the urban homepage, which offers support for initial, continued performance and increase applications. The city administration expects the applications to be doubled, which particularly emphasizes the need for a smooth digital process. A total of about 90 additional employees are needed to implement the residential angle in order to be able to master this challenge [bmwsb.bund.de] (…] (https://www.bmwsb.bund.de/shahareddocs/topthemen/webs/bmwsb/de/wohngeld-plus-plus-artikel.html).

summarized it can be said that the changeover of the housing benefit office was a need to meet the growing requirements. The cities and municipalities, especially Dresden, are now on the threshold of a more effective and more citizen -friendly housing benefit procedure. The first steps are taken and it is to be hoped that the numerous changes will have a positive impact on the support of the citizens.
