Three cyclists injured in the event of an accident - witnesses wanted!
On Thursday morning, there was a unfortunate incident on the popular Elberadweg, in which three cyclists were slightly injured. Around 9 a.m. between the Loschwitz bridge and the Waldschlößchenbrücke, an unknown cyclist overtook several other cyclists and touched an 11-year-old cyclist. This fell and suffered minor injuries. The 47-year-old cyclist, who drove right behind her, also fell and at the same time caused another accident with a 24-year-old cyclist who was traveling towards Waldschlößchenbrücke and also went down. This then ended with a viewing of the injured on the ground.
Surprisingly, the causative cyclist simply removed from the scene of the accident after the incident without taking care of the injuries. The traffic accident service has now started the investigation and is urgently looking for witnesses who may have observed the incident. The Dresden Police Directorate is accepted by the number (0351) 483 22 33. How important such evidence is, not only shows this special case, but also the current situation of the wheel accidents that are increasing.
increasing number of accidents among cyclists
In general, the number of accidents among cyclists increases, and often no further road users are involved. According to a study of accident research by insurers (UDV), there were over 27,400 bike accidents in 2023, which took place without the influence of others. Shocking 6,400 people suffered serious injuries. Especially in the winter months, when the weather conditions get worse, accidents are increasing. A third of the heaviest bicycle accidents are even sole accidents, which makes it clear how important a safe infrastructure is.The UDV points out that numerous accidents are often due to defects in the infrastructure. Course edges and tram rails are often the trigger for falls. One therefore demands an improvement in traffic conditions for cyclists in order to further reduce the risk. After all, almost two thirds of the cyclists state that their own driving style often plays a role in accidents. The correct handling of speed and observing the environment are therefore of the greatest importance not only for yourself, but also for other road users.
The police and traffic authorities are required to take preventive measures and to support cyclists affected in the event of accidents. In view of the increasing number of accidents with pedelecs, which have more severe consequences due to their higher speed and higher weight, this should be an incentive for everyone who likes to travel on two wheels. It remains to be hoped that thanks to the police investigations, all those involved in the recent accident will soon get the support and clarity they need on the Elberadweg.
For more information and current developments, our news magazine stays tuned. The relief of the health of all cyclists can only be a small ray of hope in the middle of the ever increasing accident statistics that the local authorities should stimulate to act.
