Plauen Community Foundation is growing: record funding for local projects!

There is reason to be happy in Plauen: the community foundation can look back on an excellent year. According to a recent annual press conference, the foundation reported impressive growth of 8 percent and an increase of 192,000 euros. Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Bernd Märtner, who expressly thanked the donors and supporters. The current status of the foundation's capital now stands at an impressive 2.6 million euros, a remarkable increase since it was founded in 2012 with 1.4 million euros from the assets of the textile manufacturer Hans Löwel. You can find out more about it here Blick.

For the year 2026, the community foundation plans to distribute 40,000 euros in funding for Plauen clubs for the first time. This is excellent news for all local initiatives that can rely on financial support to realize their projects. Applications for funding can be submitted until November 30th, with the selection process taking place through personal interviews. So far, 224,000 euros have already been paid out to over 100 Plauen clubs, which shows the foundation's clear focus on local projects with sustainability and innovation.

Transparency and support

Another plus point is the population's high willingness to donate. The community foundation has no employees and its own consumption is only 0.5 percent, which underlines the transparency and efficiency of the foundation. The funding amounts for projects vary between 300 and 15,000 euros and are easily accessible because the applications only require two pages of paper. Digital donation options via PayPal are also available - this makes it quick and easy to help.

“We want to bundle the different interests of our citizens in Plauen and promote individual, sustainable solutions,” explains Märtner. A seal of quality from the federal association also guarantees that the foundation promotes the common good. What is particularly pleasing is that some Plauen residents have even included the foundation in their wills.

Local commitment

The organization of the foundation, consisting of five board members and ten trustees, is managed by a foundation assembly with 24 members, which acts as the highest body. All of this shows that the community foundation not only has a financial cushion, but is also supported by a strong volunteer commitment and an active community. Anyone interested in further information can find it on the homepage of the community foundation, which, among other things, launched the “Foundations for All” initiative to strengthen local commitment. You can find out more about this at citizen foundations.
