Dresden is planning a new start: weekly markets will be advertised again in 2026!

The weekly markets in Dresden are not just a culinary delight, they are also an important part of city life. It is therefore not surprising that the city of Dresden is re-tendering the service concession for these popular markets from 2026. How MeiDresden reports, the markets will remain in the hands of the German Market Guild until the end of 2025, which offers fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and many other products from regional traders.

There are long queues in front of the stalls, especially at Münchner Platz and Lingnermarkt, which impressively shows how popular the weekly markets are among Dresden residents. It is not surprising that the city already has plans to change Münchner Platz to accommodate more retailers and thus further improve the offering.

Diverse offers

Dresden's weekly markets are a true feast for the senses. Not only is there fresh food here, but also handicrafts and flowers - a perfect place for a stroll on a sunny day. The markets take place on different days and at different locations:

  • Alaunplatz: donnerstags und sonnabends
  • Bönischplatz: mittwochs
  • Hellerau: freitags
  • Jacob-Winter-Platz: montags, mittwochs und freitags
  • Königstraße Bauernmarkt: samstags
  • Kopernikusstraße: donnerstags
  • Lingnerallee (Sachsenmarkt): freitags
  • Münchner Platz: mittwochs
  • Reißigerstraße: dienstags und donnerstags
  • Schillerplatz: samstags
  • Stralsunder Straße: donnerstags
  • Wasaplatz: donnerstags

Not only are these places a place to get fresh produce, they also support the local economy and strengthen the community. The concept of the markets is based on the principles of regionality and seasonal cultivation. Studies such as the investigation of Kurz-mal-weg.de show that weekly markets often score points for their freshness and quality.

New ways in market organization

In order to further increase the attractiveness of the markets, the fees for traders should be increased. This measure will allow the city to generate more revenue, which can then be invested in the further development of the markets. The future operator will also be obliged to pay at least 250,000 euros of the stand rent to the city.

The Dresden weekly markets are not only a marketplace for fresh products, but also a place for meetings and exchanges. The upcoming tender for the service concession could bring new impetus and make the markets even more interesting. Who knows, maybe one or two retailers will take the opportunity to redefine the tastes of Dresden.
